Everyone has the right to feel safe. People with intellectual disability experience abuse and neglect at alarmingly high rates. As a carer, you’re often required to speak up for someone who may not be able to speak for themselves. If you or the person you care for experience abuse, support is available.

Carer Gateway has help and advice that can assist carers to access support if they’re unsafe.

Disability Gateway has a range of safety support services available for you person or the person you care for.

The Council for Intellectual Disability has resources and information about how to support people with intellectual disability who have experienced abuse.

1800RESPECT provides information and resources for professionals who support people impacted by sexual assault, domestic and family violence.
